National Cathedral Marvelous but Bookstore Sells Gargoyles?

The National Cathedral is a marvelous work of art and beauty. The architecture is fabulous and to think great men of God such as Billy Graham have spoken from the pulpit, it makes it all the more marvelous.

We went there on our recent Safety Patrol trip. It was a wonderful place with precious stories of faith and belief in God.

The only thing I don’t get is the evil looking gargoyles. I realize that the architects put them on the corners of the eves of the building but there is just something wrong with it. Walter Arnold is said to have carved some of the carvings.

And, what’s more, they sell them in the bookstore. What in the world could they be thinking selling Bibles and gargoyles in the same room.

In my heart of hearts, I do not feel those are of God. There is no place on God’s place of worship for evil looking things. But that’s my take on it. In my view, that was man’s decision (and a bad one) not God’s inspiration.

Otherwise, the church is magnificent.
