Bobby Bowden Charges Adults To “Be That Person”

December 29th, 2009 · Comments Off

Often called “the most winning coach in football history” said this morning at the Fellowship of Christian Athletes breakfast that up and coming adults but “be that person” for the younger generation. He charged not only players but adults to step up to the plate and be a mentor for those who may need it. Bowden said that through his career he often saw young guys who had no father figure and he felt it his obligation to fill that role if he could and he encouraged the crowd of about 1,100 at the FCA event in Jacksonville to accept that role of leadership if need be.

Bowden was in town for the Gator Bowl game of which is believed to be his last game as a coach.

So I Haven’t Taken The Medicine in Over a Year

December 29th, 2009 · Comments Off

After the yearly check-up, including blood work, I received a note from my doctor for me to make a “follow-up” appointment with him. He told me that I must take the prescribed medicine that he’s written up for me. I told him I just didn’t want to.. He said, “And, just why?”.

Well, the end result is that I asked for a 90 day supply and took it to the pharmacy tonight to have it filled.

I still don’t want to…..My father is 89. He does not take any medicine. I’m young, why am I taking something???? Such is life though…

Trophy on the Patio

December 28th, 2009 · Comments Off

(Photo is not for the faint-hearted. Don’t look if you get squeamish! )

My cat is fed well. Every morning and evening he gets a full cup of Little Friskies cat food. He eats until he’s full and often walks away with the bowl still filled with little nuggets.

I even let the cat stay inside and give him a nice cat bed at night but today, I wondered about all of that. He brought a trophy for me to see on the back porch today. The trophy was part of his dinner and so I wondered if I had done a good job of really feeding him. Well, anyhow…I cleaned up the mess and I’m still wondering. It could have simply been a chase for the cat and ended up on the porch? I don’t know…( Sorry for the pic but it is a part of life).

Beliefs

December 28th, 2009 · Comments Off

What Christians believe. People who profess only Jesus as the way to Salvation generally hold to what is called The Apostles’ Creed. It is a short statement. I have listed it below. It was written to capsulate the beliefs of what the Twelve Apostles of Jesus held to…. Fundamental Christian beliefs hold to this as well.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, Born of the Virgin Mary: Suffered under Pontius Pilate, Was crucified, dead, and buried: He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead: He ascended into heaven, And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty: From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit: the holy universal Church; the Communion of Saints; the Forgiveness of sins: The Resurrection of the body: and the Life everlasting. Amen.

We Are Not All Called To The Ministry but….

December 28th, 2009 · Comments Off

Tell others about Jesus like Oswald Chambers did:

” Though we are not all called to the ministry of a Chaplain or a Christian Writer, we are all called by God to share our faith (witness) with those who are not Christians. ”

Oswald Chambers

1874 -1917

“Oswald Chambers was a man unbridled by the world and its desires. Some say he was one of the greatest Christian thinkers of our time.

He was born on July 24, 1874 in Aberdeen Scotland, where he became a Christian during his teen years under the ministry of Charles Spurgeon.”

What Could Bring You Back To Jesus?

December 28th, 2009 · Comments Off

According to Richard C. Halverson, former Chaplain of the United States Senate, the copy of My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers, was what brought him back to Jesus time and time again. Here are his words:
“Nine months after I met Jesus Christ, a copy of My Utmost for His Highest, by Oswald Chambers, was given to me for Christmas, 1936. On January 1, 1937, I began to read this daily devotional book, and with relatively few exceptions it has been my daily spiritual nurture ever since. One year I put it aside and experimented with several other daily devotionals, but they did not satisfy me.

No book except the Bible has influenced my walk with Christ at such deep and maturing levels. Nor has any influenced my preaching and teaching so much.

The book’s strength lies in its stubborn insistence on the objective reality of redemption as the only secure foundation.Today subjective experience is often accepted as the criterion for authentic faith and experience is the person of Jesus Christ.

Chambers makes the point that Christian faith is rooted in events. The historicity of the gospel is its validation. Propositional truth is important, but the basis of faith is always Jesus Christ himself.

Through the years Chambers has kept me on course by bringing me back to Jesus. Believing Jesus, not just believing my beliefs about Jesus, is basic”.

How To Pay Off Your Debts

    December 27th, 2009 · Comments Off

Okay, I do not pretend to even know how to do this BUT…. I have been reading that 8 out of 10 people in America are in some type of debt so obviously, the good majority need this information.

Here are some suggestions for paying off debt…

    1. Get a 2nd job. Yes, you can flip burgers and yes, there are burger flipping jobs out there.
    2. Sell on the internet- Craigs List and other FREE sites give opportunity for you to get rid of some of your stuff. “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure”.
    2. Slow down the spending. Share meals with others, eat sandwiches at home or buy the lesser expensive products.
    3. Cut out some of the frills- Stop the newspaper, get a smaller plan on the phone. Use your cell phone for long distance calls and cut out your long distance monthly fee. Think of other ways to trim off $5.- $10- $50 a month.
    4. WRITE down your plan for paying “something off”. You won’t do it without a plan so get a plan going.
    5. Ask God for guidance. He knows your need, your desire and your situation. Remember… “Ye have not because ye ask not”, says the Holy Scripture.

I’m going to try all of the above PLUS I’m going to refer to the experts.

God Watches The Eyes of My Heart

    December 27th, 2009 · Comments Off

Have you ever thought about your heart having eyes? The Bible teaches that God wants to give us the desires of our heart. The Holy Scripture also tells us that our heart should be fixed on Him that we might learn the mysteries of God.

I never thought about my heart having eyes until I read the book Our Jealous God but having read it, I want to better protect my heart and the watchful eyes of God as it relates to my own wants.

5 Things For Finding Success in 2010

    December 27th, 2009 · Comments Off

Bill Gothard dedicated his life and himself to helping people make wise decisions. He is now over 60 years old but through the years wrote many books to drive personal success. One thing he says that helped him as a young person was to “make a vow” in areas where he might fail. Here are 5 suggestions of things to do in the new year to build a successful 365 day plan:

    1. Make a vow- Choose Gothard’s idea to help you safeguard yourself against things where you might be weak. Make a vow NOT to find yourself in that place, with those people, in that area, etc.

Gary Smalley suggests that we always leave the homelights burning for our family members.

    2. Accept family members and love them unconditionally- We all make mistakes but we need family to stick with us through thick or thin. This year, just love your family members and always keep the homelights burning.

Rick Warren suggests that we all have an actual purpose for being on this earth.
    3. Seek out your purpose and “just do it”. What is it that really LOVE doing and do it day in and day out.

Florence Littauer writes that by uncovering the roots of your personality, you’ll discover yourself.
    4. Discover the real YOU. Are you in introvert or extrovert? Do you think to talk or talk to think? Are you organized or disorganized. How can you really BE YOU and affect for the positive others? Work on finding this out this year.

Benjamin Franklin once began a small “club” among friends. He called it “Junto”. In the club, he wrote rules that all would follow and here are some of them:

  • Every member should produce one or more queries on any point of morals, politics, or natural philosophy.
  • Once in three month members must talk about their thoughts.
  • Members must write an essay and be willing to read it to the group at some point.
  • The group must meet in the spirit of inquiry of truth without fondness for dispute or desire of victory.
  • 5. Develop a Strong Base for Meeting and Sharing- Who could you commit to this year? Could you meet monthly with some friends? Could you develop a team in which you grow and learn? Try this.
