Every year I read a book called the ” Wide and Lonesome Prairie” by Kristiana Gregory. It is the diary of Hattie Campbell. Her aunt June gave her the journal before their trip to Oregon and told her, “Hattie, record the good and the bad”. So today, I am recording the bad and I’m sorry to do so but I realize the relevance of telling good and bad.
Someone dear to me had to put the family colt down yesterday. It seems the baby cut it’s achilles tendon. The vet was rushed out but although everything was done to save the beautiful beast, nothing could save him really. The vet told the family that even if the heel was stitched, he would pull the stitches out when he walked and played.
They had to put him down.
The foal’s mother has been crying for him all the day long.
Just as in the book about Hattie’s journeys west, I will do as she often does.
“And that’s all I can say for now”.
