“Whooo- Whooo”- Georgia Train

July 21st, 2008 · No Comments

Just one year ago, a French train broke the world speed record reaching some 357.2 mph.

Because I wanted to photograph the train, I had to pay attention to the times it would fly past. I noticed that it came about every three hours. It may not actually come that often but when I began to time the ones I heard come, I found that about three hours later another would whistle past.

The first night, I really noticed the train whistle but as the days went along, I really rarely even noticed the train flying past.

Supper was served at 5:30 on Tuesday. I decided that I would go about 6:45 p.m. which was near about the time I had noticed a train last evening. I walked the quarter of a mile and began taking photographs of the train tracks, cross ties and huge rail nails. I walked on down to the crossing area and there photographed the large stop lights and the Railroad Crossing signs. Somewhere at about 7:09 the train could be heard coming around the bend. I used my long 80-200 Nikon lense. As soon as I locked that train into my site, I was able to just click away.

The whole event of actually photographing the train took only a minute or two. I waited all of that time to take a few pictures of a moving train.

I have no idea how fast it was moving… Probably not 357.2 mph but it was certainly moving along at a nice hum… “Whooo…. Whoooo”….
